A Case Study of a Therapy with an Autistic Child and the Concept of Body Image
Masayo Chihara

Abstract
This is a case study on the effectiveness of the therapy for four-years autistic male child. At the beginning of the therapy, he couldn¢¥t do anything but running around the play room. He had no eye-contact and only a few words. However, as the rapport developed, he picked and counted a piece of toy on the floor, and after that, he began to use the place as a base. This place had an important meaning and the author thought that it was equal to his body image, because once the place was invaded, he fell into a panic statue as if he himself had been about to collapse.
As the therapy proceeded, this Place became winder and his unconscious fantasy was more and more symbolized. At the middle of the therapy, finally, he became able to use the word "T", which meant the birth of his own ego. At this point his body image also became more consolidated and he seemed to get whole entity in time and space.
In the last period, he was under the status of oedipus complex, in which the unconscious fantasies that constitute the body image were also fully appeared. Fortunately, he went through this status successfully, and the therapy was terminated for his entrance into elementary school. Whole therapy Process was examined form the viewpoint of body-image formation which is essential to acquire the sense of identity.
